Maryland offering $200 gift cards for dead snakehead fish

Getting paid to fish sounds like a dream come true to some. But does it have the same appeal if you're going up against a "fish from hell" that can travel on land and sink its teeth into a steel-toed boot?
The Maryland Department of Natural Resources Inland Fisheries (DNR) is hoping so and is offering $200 gift cards through Bass Pro Shops to residents who capture and kill a snakehead, an invasive species from Africa that is upsetting the natural order of the local ecosystem.
"We do not want snakeheads in our waters," DNR Director Don Cosden tells FoxNews.com.?"This initiative is a way to remind anglers that it is important to catch and remove this invasive species of fish."
The snakehead was first seen in Maryland back in 2002, after an 18-inch adult was caught in a local pond. But the powerful fish, which has no natural predators in the region, is also a determined survivalist (they can survive for up to four days on land) and has since migrated to the nearby Potomac River and its tributaries.
It's illegal to sell snakeheads in most U.S. states. But as I reported several years ago, federal agents have uncovered illegal snakehead selling operations in several states, including New York, Texas, Florida and Missouri.
"We don't expect that anglers will eradicate the snakehead population," DNR Tidal Bass program manager Joe Love told Fox. "We do believe this promotion and inspiration of anglers can help control the snakehead population. The information we gain from the Angler's Log reports are also helpful in assessing the abundance, spread and impact of these feisty fish."
To qualify for one of the $200 gift cards and an assortment of other prizes, all you have to do is upload a photo of yourself with a dead snakehead to the DNR's Angler's Log site. The only complicated part is actually capturing and killing one of the "fish from hell."
One photo uploaded on Thursday by recreational angler Berry shows him with seven dead snakehead. He says he had to shoot them with a gun. Berry wrote that the snakehead have been noticeably devastating the local bass population. "The snakehead are simply taking over the spawning grounds," he wrote.

Tokio Hotel have finally made it to the mountaintop. The eternal Musical March Madness bridesmaids bested Green Day in Tuesday night's championship matchup, claiming their first-ever title and putting to rest any questions about their tournament toughness.

After a back-and-forth battle that saw nearly 5 million votes cast, TH pulled away from defending champs Green Day late in the game, then withstood a final rally — Billie Joe Armstrong and co. weren't about to go down without a fight — to take the championship.
In doing so, they brought to close two years of tournament torment; after all, Tokio Hotel have come tantalizingly close to the championship before, losing a Final Four heartbreaker to Coheed and Cambria in 2010 and getting edged out by Paramore in the Elite 8 last year. But from the tip-off of MMM 2012, they appeared determined to finally win it all, pasting lesser foes like Arcade Fire, Muse and F---ed Up, blasting longtime rivals Coheed and Cambria in the Elite 8 and outlasting #1 Evanescence in the Final Four.
And now, much to the delight of their worldwide fanbase, they're the first international band to wear the March Madness crown.
Congratulations to them and all of their loyal Aliens — they took on all challengers and now reign supreme. The MMM trophy is being engraved as you read this, and we'll even pay to ship it all the way to Germany.
To wrap up a truly epic tournament, we've put together a traditional "One Shining Moment" montage, one that captures all the highs and lows of a wild three weeks. We had upsets, blowouts and more than a few accusations of cheating, but that's what makes this tourney so great.

In their search for happiness and fulfillment, their coupling is fraught with tension but ultimately inevitable.
The bedroom scenes, for which?Lady Chatterley's Lover?is famous, are less sensual than one might expect and almost clinical in their descriptions. The relationship between Connie and Mellors is not one of shared love and respect but rather one of dominance and submission and even gratitude over their mutual sexual satisfaction. What they say, or don?t say, to each other is definitely more important than what they do to each other. The one thing that becomes abundantly clear is that the 21st century has nothing on the 1920s in the form of the act itself or the language used.
Where?Lady Chatterley's Lover?gets its true punch is not through its infamous bedroom scenes but rather through its rather blunt discussions of class and the blurring of the lines between them that occurred after the First World War. The fact that Connie is having an affair is not as shocking as the fact that her affair is with someone who society considers to be of a lower class than her and is in fact one of her husband?s employees. Affairs are okay; intermingling of the classes is not. Through Connie and Mellors? relationship, and Mellors? continued confusion about his place in society, Lawrence highlights the change that was occurring in English society after the war. Class lines were blurring, if not disappearing, and some embraced the change more than others.?Lady Chatterley's Lover?forced readers of that era to take a look at their own prejudices about class and recognize that this issue was not stagnating the way they always have. Modern-day readers receive a historical glimpse of the social turmoil brought about by the post-war era and what truly ruffled feathers during this time.
Lady Chatterley's Lover?is not a novel about which readers can rave about how amazingly awesome it is. Instead, it is a novel that requires careful reading and even more careful thinking about what was read. The language itself makes this a novel for a select audience. Those easily offended or remotely squeamish about curse words or crude slang terms for anatomical parts would be well advised to not even attempt to read it. However, those who can get past the shock and awe that Lawrence successfully managed to incorporate in the novel will appreciate the cautionary, almost revolutionary ideas he posits regarding class, scholarship, and relationships.
